Bra Shopping 101

August 17th, 2010

When did shopping for a bra become so complicated? The other day I made a list of over 35 types of bras that are available to women today. No wonder there is so much confusion out there. Obviously it’s not practical or necessary to own every single type of bra available. Your choices are going to be based on your individual lingerie needs. Here’s a guide to the most basic bra types that should help you get started.

full coverage minimizerFull Coverage: This bra has cups that fully cover the breasts and offer the most support. This type of bra is frequently found with built in underwires at the base of the cups. This bra can be found with or without light padding or fiberfill depending on your needs.

demi braDemi-Bra:

This bra is designed with cups that cover just over half of the breast for a heavy-cleavage look. Some demi-bra’s are designed with padding or structural support to push the breasts upward which increases the appearance and look of fullness in the breasts, creating maximum cleavage as well.

padded push up

Padded Bra: Padded bras are primarily designed to add volume to smaller breasts. They are available with many types of padding. Bras with water and silicone pads have a more natural feel while still adding the look of more fullness to the breasts. Padded bras can be found with varying levels of padding as well, from a light fiberfill to a very heavy and maximum uplift padding.

convertible bra

Convertible Bra: This is a very versatile and useful bra to add to your wardrobe. It can be worn many different ways to accommodate various necklines and strap designs, including halter styles.

t-shirt bra

T-Shirt Bra: A bra designed without seams or trims to create a perfectly seamless and smooth look under even very clingy fabrics. T-shirt bras can be found with or without padding depending on your breast size and fashion needs.

Minimizer

Minimizer Bra: This bra is designed for the full figured or large breasted woman that would like a full support bra that will reduce the appearance of breast size by up to one full cup size.

strapless

Strapless Bra: This bra is made without straps or with removable straps so that it can be worn with the most shoulder revealing apparel. It is also useful for tricky necklines or strap styles that are difficult to conceal bra straps beneath.

deep plunge

Deep Plunge Bra: This bra is designed to be worn with the deepest plunging necklines and still offer you full support.

Shopping for a bra doesn’t have to be confusing. If you look at your wardrobe needs you should be able to discern which bras are most useful and comfortable for you. Having the right bras that you fit you properly and work with your clothing needs will ultimately simplify your life greatly and help you to look your best. Take the time to fill that undie drawer accordingly. Xo J.

New Image for Miss USA-Miss Universe?

August 14th, 2010

We mentioned this back in May (see the article entitled “God Bless the USA”), but because we really like the photos, and because of the current round of criticism of the Miss Universe photo shoots, we think it should be revisited.

Miss Minnesota Courtney Basara

In 1952, the winner of the Miss America Pageant refused to be photographed in a swimsuit. The pageant sponsor, Catalina, who designed the swimsuits for the competition, pulled their support and decided to host their own pageant. The Miss USA Beauty Pageant was born.

Miss Mississippi Breanne Ponder

Unlike the rival Miss America contest, there is no talent portion of the pageant for Miss USA. Contestants are judged in swimsuit, evening gown and interview categories. Since 1952, the pageant has been owned by various companies, and in 1996, it was purchased by the current owner, Donald Trump.

Miss Utah Katya Dmitrievna Feinstein

It would seem that the pageant is realigning their image this year. The official photoshoot for all contestants has traditionally featured swimwear.

Miss Michigan Rima Fakih (reigning Miss USA 2010)

This year, all contestants were photographed in provocative poses, on a big bed, in sexy lingerie. Over all, we applauded this idea. We envisioned these as the ideal American Girls…today’s pin up pictures on army foot lockers and barracks walls.

The next step for the reigning Miss USA and other national winners from around the world, is the Miss Universe Pageant. This week, the beauties are in Las Vegas gearing up for the big contest. Again, there is a traditional photo shoot that has always featured swimwear. The difference, this year, is that the contestants were asked “What they felt comfortable with.” Rima Fakih, Miss USA 2010, replied that she “feels comfortable with beauty.” Although many contestants chose to keep their clothes on, a number of them, including Miss USA, posed topless or in body paint for the official photo shoot on August 12. According to Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Latoya Woods, “You know that saying, ‘Bad publicity is good publicity?’ It’s going to be good!”

Katy Perry Poses In Lingerie For Rolling Stone

August 11th, 2010

Katy Perry

Katy Perry has posed in some very sexy lingerie in a recent photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine. The August 19 issue will feature Ms. Perry as her new album, “Teenage Dream,” is to be released later this month.

Katy Perry in Soft Pink Lingerie

Katy, who claims to still be haunted by the strict religious upbringing of her youth, has apparently gotten over it enough to pose topless as well as in various stages of sexy un-dress. In spite of her slightly scandalous image, Katy still feels surprisingly shocked by some of the religious images used by some of today fellow pop idols. “I am sensitive to Russell (Russell Brand, her fiancé) taking the Lord’s name in vain and to Lady GaGa putting a rosary in her mouth,” she said in reference to Ms. GaGa’s “Alejandro” video.

“I think when you put sex and spirituality in the same bottle and shake it up, bad things happen. Yes, I said I kissed a girl. But I didn’t say I kissed a girl while f-ing a crucifix,” Katy continued. Along the lines of her strict religious upbringing, Katy also added, “I wasn’t ever able to say I was ‘lucky’, because my mother would rather us say that we were ‘blessed’, and she also didn’t like that ‘lucky sounded like ‘Lucifer’.”

Well, Katy if it makes you feel better, we think you look blessed as well as angelic in your Rolling Stone photos. This “California Gurl” has definitely got it going on. Teenage Dream? Indeed. Xo J.
