The Architecture of Lingerie

July 5th, 2010

Nichole de Carle 1While her designs are available at only 4 retail outlets in the world, designer Nichole de Carle is making a big impression in the lingerie world. The London-based designer brings the hard-edged design elements of great architecture of the world and interprets them into luxurious, satiny foundation garments. Free of extraneous decoration, her collections remind us that lingerie is intended as the structure upon which fashion is built.

The “Opal Collection” takes its inspiration from four architechtural gems, located in four fashion capitals of the world: The Louvre in Paris, the Duomo in Milan, Westminster Abbey in London, and the Chrysler building in New York. Her “Onyx Collection” is inspired by architecture featured in the book “The DaVinci Code”, by Dan Brown, and reflects the mystery and mysticism of the search for the Holy Grail.

Nichole’s creations, unlike some other designers’ offerings, are practical and emminently wearable. Only one question remains unanswered for us. How can one possibly bear to cover up these stunning fashions with other clothing?

Panties 101

June 29th, 2010

If you’ve shopped for lingerie lately you probably know what I mean. There are so many different types of panties out there today it’s hard to know what’s what anymore. Gone are the days of only high-waisted granny panties being our only choice. In fact, while coming full circle, the lingerie world now offers so many varied choices to women that it can be overwhelming and confusing. And yes, you can still get those granny panties if you want to. Here’s a simple guide that may be useful as you head out to shop for your undies.

gstring

G-Strings/Thongs. This is definitely the most minimalistic panty look. The plus side is that you can be practically guaranteed no visible panty lines. The down side is sometimes having a string or wedge of fabric riding up your rear isn’t the most comfortable feeling. Because of very little fabric, these undies can offer little or no support to hide figure flaws, and God forbid if you have low riding jeans. It can be what I would call “too much information” exposed in the rear view, if you catch my drift.

Briefs/Bikinis/Boyshorts.very sexy boy shorts

In the past few years, these have definitely seen a rise in popularity, particularly boyshorts. These offer the comfort of full coverage in a more modest style. There are many modern styles and fabrics that reduce panty lines. Flattering sporty fit, full coverage, comfort and modern sexy styling make for a truly winning combination.

tanga

Tanga. Imagine a panty half way between a thong and a brief or bikini. Tanga panties are cut so that they visually dissect your rear in half at a very flattering angle. This all but eliminates panty lines, yet has a much higher comfort level than a full thong or g-string. In recent years, tanga panties have become increasingly more popular, with good reason. These panties offer the sexiness of a thong, with the coverage and comfort of a bikini or brief.

control-enhancerControl/Enhancers.

There is a vast and wide range of control garments available in all sort of coverage levels. These garments are designed primarily for tummy control and rear end shaping. Enhancers have strategically placed padding designed to fill out your booty where nature didn’t. Chosen wisely, these undergarments will not only subtract pounds from your figure but smooth and shape you as well.

crotchless

Crotchless. Designed with unapologetic sex appeal these panties are made to be over the top sexy. Although not necessarily made for everyday practical purposes, when it comes time to playtime these sexy little numbers might be a girl’s best friend. Certainly these qualify as the naugtiest of the knickers.

Hopefully this brief tutorial has helped you as you wade through the sea of underwear choices available to you out there in lingerie-land. Happy shopping! Xo J.

What a Waist!

June 27th, 2010

Jonah Hex PosterShe has been one of our favorite lingerie models, but, can Megan Fox carry an entire movie on her lovely, corsetted back? In the newly released film from DC Comics/Warner, “Jonah Hex”, Megan plays a lady-of-the-evening-in-distress in the old west to Josh Brolin’s scarred bounty hunter. Photos that were leaked from the set showing Megan’s costume caused a flurry of speculation in the industry and across the internet.

Megan's CorsetMegan Fox purportedly wears a size 0. As tiny as that sounds, the photos showed her in authentic, vintage corsets that seem to show a severely cinched waist. She explained that, for the sake of authenticity, the costume department did, in fact, tighten the corset, getting her waist down to an amazing 18 inches! Megan reported that, after wearing the corsets for a day of shooting, she bore the marks and indentations of the boning for another 24 hours.

Megan in "Jonah Hex"Reports that she had dropped to an unhealthy weight were only speculation. Corsetting in the late 19th century was common and often resulted in dramatically small waist size. It is obvious from other photos of Megan taken out of costume at around the same time, that she retained her famously curvy figure. Check it out for yourself as “Jonah Hex” comes to a theater near you!
