I’ve learned a thing or two in my life and as much as I hate to admit it, one of the things I have to confess is that us girls are infinitely more complicated than our male counterparts. Men need food, sex, success at work and maybe a little exercise now and then (and yes, sex probably counts in some cases for that) and that’s about it. Women on the other hand have such a vast array of needs that I wouldn’t even begin to list them here. Not only do we have many needs, but even those supposed needs tend to vary from day to day. One day we are on top of the world shouting “I am woman, hear me roar!” The next day we might be bawling in the bathtub over some completely ignorant guy that did something really dumb. The guy is undoubtedly clueless over what he did—and most certainly it was probably unintentional—but sometimes it still feels good to have a little girl pity party and thus so it is.

When it comes to sex men are remarkably uncomplicated. If you’re the right girl a simple t-shirt and jeans will turn him on and even the traditionally unsexy is sexy to him. If a man cares for a woman, she’s always hot to him. If she wears some sexy lingerie and pulls out all the stops for her guy–well, he’s over the moon. Guaranteed. It’s not a magic formula as it’s just the way men are wired. For the most part guys are simple and predictable and they really don’t even care if you know this. They take great pride in their lack of unneeded complexity.

We girls could learn a lot from our beloved men, but we are too busy wrapping ourselves up in little details and drama to figure even that out. I know my saying so might sound like a betrayal to the sisterhood, but c’mon girls–no one, and I mean no one can muddy the romance waters like a woman. We overanalyze and over think our guys to the point of ridiculousness. If we could only learn to scale down our male analysis to the rudimentary basics we could save ourselves a lot of heartache.

As for guys, I actually feel sorry for them. Certainly getting us girls turned on isn’t as simple as just putting on some silky boxers and gyrating the booty in front of us. You might get a laugh, or a slap or a door slammed in your face, that will depend on our mood–which as most men have already painfully discovered is bound to change on a dime. Skip the gyrating in boxers and take a different approach. It’s a proven fact that women are more likely to feel in the mood for sex if her man is helpful around the house and helps out with the mundane household chores. This is dangerous territory, however and could easily backfire. You are likely to get stonewalled if your lady finds out you are doing chores only to get sex. The trick is to keep your agenda a secret and most certainly if it doesn’t work right away, don’t expose your plan or your cover is forever blown and all chores done sans nagging will be suspect. If the point is to get laid, you do have to be a bit smooth, which isn’t every guy’s forte. The point is, we’re wired differently—so you will need to take a slower, much less direct approach.

The more I know about the differences between men and women the more in awe I am that couples ever get-and stay-together at all. Maybe we are all just gluttons for punishment, or perhaps what we’ve heard is true.  Maybe opposites just really do attract.

Guys take note. If your girl is heading for the bathtub for a good cry-make sure it’s clean and spotless for her. You never know—that might be all it takes to turn the night around and when her mood shifts—it may very well be in your direction. Happy romance! Xo J.

The air is cold and crisp. Football season is in full gear. The days are getting shorter. There are other preparations being made as well that involve a different sort of engineering.   The girlfriends and spouses of the miners have been madly getting ready for the arrival of their men.   Sexy lingerie, wedding veils, wedding dresses and other such items have been purchased.  It’s a bonafide frenzy amongst the women who are waiting in camp.

These excited women have hit the local beauty salon–Palumbo, to ensure that they look their best.   Hair and make up is being applied and several of the women spoke of the sexy attire they intend to greet their loved ones with.

Cristina Nunez has a red bra and panty set she plans to wear sometime after her fiance’s arrival.  Interestingly enough she also has a set of devil’s horns, a tail and a cape to go along with her sexy red lingerie.  In contrast she also has something more angelic to wear—white lingerie with a bride’s veil.  Apparently this underground odyssey inspired this couple after 11 years of being together to finally take that walk down the aisle.   ”I’ll be a little devil on the first night after the rescue, and a bride on the wedding night,” she said.

Between rushing off to have their hair done, getting their nails painted and the lingerie ready these women certainly have kept their minds off the last eternal hours before their men arrive safely above ground.  It’s pretty certain that these guys will be as happy as men could ever be to be back in the arms of their women.  Undoubtedly this will be a very joyful reunion that will be shared by everyone watching around the world.  Whatever happens in private later—well, it sounds like they’ve got a plan for that as well.  Xo J.

You can’t really miss the fact that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.  I love that women can pull together as a community to educate, encourage and make each other aware of what’s necessary to properly care for our health.

Even the tough guys of the NFL have gotten in on the act.  This month if you turn in to any NFL football game you will notice players wearing bright pink wrist bands, chin straps, cleats and other accessories in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.   So many amongst us have been affected by this disease, and it’s definitely time to get the word out for women that breast cancer can be treated successfully-and early detection is the key.

A really great for-profit organization called The Bra Recyclers was founded in an  effort to provide gently used bras to women in need.  These women may include breast cancer survivors or women living in shelters.  Receiving these bras often gives women a needed psychological boost, which promotes self-esteem in women during a time of dire circumstances.

“You have a lot of usable textiles that are just going to landfills. And people are tight on money right now so if you can find a way to give back without writing a check, I think it means a lot to women.”   said Elaine Birks-Mitchell, founder of The Bra Recyclers.

The Bra Recyclers has donated over 10,000 bras to 23 foundations across the country including Alternatives for Battered Women in Rochester, New York to Dress For Success in Phoenix, Arizona.  As far as donations go, all shapes and sizes are welcomed.  Make sure the items is clean then tag it with appropriate information and box it up and mail it off.  Then of course you should pat yourself on the back for doing something, however small to make the world a better place.
