Virtually Sexy

Art imitates life at Style Starts HereLingerie is sexy. No matter what other discussions we may have about it, this fact is inarguable. When we look at lingerie, we are picturing ourselves, or our significant other, or someone we are attracted to, in that article of clothing. For some of us, we are wishing that we looked as good in it as the model. Some of us are comparing the look and fabric choices that are available. Some of us, to be honest, are just wishing we had the courage to wear some of the more risque’ ensembles. If you have the time and inclination, you can explore all of these possibilities safely and comfortably in a “virtual” world.

Inspired design from Nyte & DayGifted designers and creators in such worlds as Second Life, IMVU, Blue Mars and InWorld, draw their inspiration from real world designs to create environments, architecture, items and clothing for 3D people, called avatars. Your avatar becomes your presence and personality in the 3D community. The concept has been around and in use for over 10 years, with varying degrees of success. Today’s avatars are sophisticated, lifelike, and capable of almost human interaction with each other. Naturally, their clothing must be just as sophisticated and lifelike. This includes lingerie!

Corset and thong from Rock Me, AmadeusRecently, I have been researching lingerie in the virtual community of Second Life. What we might find attractive or popular in the “real” world, will almost always be reflected in the 3D world. Just as the World Cup fever taught us all what a “vuvuzela” is, current trends in fashion are reflected almost immediately. I have pictured a few of the intimate fashions that I found, along with their real world inspirations. I’d like to acknowlege the gifted designers at the virtual fashion houses Style Starts Here, and Rock Me, Amadeus, Nyte and Day, and Pasarella, whose lingerie I have pictured for you.

Fantasy Lingerie by PasarellaWhy wear lingerie in a virtual world? Avatars are ideal versions of ourselves. They can be adjusted to any size or shape. In a virtual world, your avatar can be as attractive, or as plain, as you choose. If you have always wanted to experiment with lingerie styles, it is not only possible, but expected! The virtual club scene is filled with avatars in various states of dress…and undress. It is a great place to experiment with new looks, and gauge the reaction you may receive in the real world.

In conclusion, let me just say that I hope that real world designers are following some of the brilliant work of the virtual fashion houses. I have spent a week drooling over some lingerie confections that I would love to have available to me in real life! Take a walk into virtuality, and see for yourself!
